Painfully beautiful。--The New York Times Book Review

For years, rumors of the Marsh Girl have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast。 So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl。 But Kya is not what they say。 Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand。 Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved。 When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life--until the unthinkable happens。

Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder。 Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps。

Where the Crawdads Sing。。。。 it’s title gives away the suggestion that this is about life that exists on the outskirts, in the mud, where no one is looking。 And that’s exactly what this story is about。 It’s heartbreaking in some moments, and I thoroughly enjoyed the court scenes。 I will say, the first half was a little drawn, and then I found myself up until 4am and neglecting my responsibilities to finish the second half。 Great writing and I felt myself completely drawn in to Kya’s world。 I woul Where the Crawdads Sing。。。。 it’s title gives away the suggestion that this is about life that exists on the outskirts, in the mud, where no one is looking。 And that’s exactly what this story is about。 It’s heartbreaking in some moments, and I thoroughly enjoyed the court scenes。 I will say, the first half was a little drawn, and then I found myself up until 4am and neglecting my responsibilities to finish the second half。 Great writing and I felt myself completely drawn in to Kya’s world。 I would suggest this for anyone who loves a good heartfelt, lonely, coming of age story with a little murder mystery tucked in。 Team Kya。 。。。more

Reminiscent of many of my favourite books, this story, set in the marsh, drew me in。 Kya is a strong character, as much moulded and nurtured by the marsh as by the people who ignored her, she finds solace and wisdom In the natural world。 Alone, she survives and becomes so much more than anyone, except Tate, could ever have expected。 The writing, infused with poetry, lead me through the story as effortlessly as Kya navigated through the channels of the marsh。 Spending time with Kya always taught Reminiscent of many of my favourite books, this story, set in the marsh, drew me in。 Kya is a strong character, as much moulded and nurtured by the marsh as by the people who ignored her, she finds solace and wisdom In the natural world。 Alone, she survives and becomes so much more than anyone, except Tate, could ever have expected。 The writing, infused with poetry, lead me through the story as effortlessly as Kya navigated through the channels of the marsh。 Spending time with Kya always taught me something。 Her love for her world was so evident。 Her cataloguing of the small things that hold the life in the marsh together made me wish to travel to those areas and see the world through her eyes。For now, I will experience it all through the magic of this story。 。。。more

This has to be amongst the most hyped books in the past couple years。 I have seen it everywhere but actually had no idea what it was even about beyond it being a historical fiction。 I jumped in anyways and grabbed the audio that was available from my library, which I’ll start off with saying the audio narrator was great。 The book itself though, the story was just ok for me personally。 It definitely wasn’t terrible, the writing is fine but it just wasn’t a new favorite and didn’t do anything for This has to be amongst the most hyped books in the past couple years。 I have seen it everywhere but actually had no idea what it was even about beyond it being a historical fiction。 I jumped in anyways and grabbed the audio that was available from my library, which I’ll start off with saying the audio narrator was great。 The book itself though, the story was just ok for me personally。 It definitely wasn’t terrible, the writing is fine but it just wasn’t a new favorite and didn’t do anything for me really。 It was definitely a slow moving story, which I suppose kind of works with the marsh setting。 This is set on the North Carolina coast from the late 1950s-70s。 The “Marsh Girl”, Kya, has survived on her own for years in the marsh when two young men from town introduce themselves into her life, both forever changing her future。 The story jumps back and forth between a possible murder and the life Kya has lived during the years before。 The part I liked was the quiet, natural world of the marsh around Kya and how connected to it all she was。 She becomes a naturalist and catalogs countless amounts of marsh nature。 The rest of the story was fine but just didn’t really grab me as much as it seems to have grabbed others。 。。。more

I flew through this book despite having a handful of issues。 The male gaze abounded。 The plot required a good suspension of reality。 The dialogue was a bit stilted。 Yet Kya compelled me。 Her story outraged me。 The murder mystery at the core of the book was so simple it was entirely predictable — and, therefore, ingenuously, wasn’t。 If her narrative was a bit fantastical, the breathtaking descriptions of her marsh made up for it。 A classic, satisfying underdog story。

Engaging, fast-moving。 I would've added a star, but the beginning phase was so improbable。 Engaging, fast-moving。 I would've added a star, but the beginning phase was so improbable。 。。。more

A little slow at the beginning and I found it didn’t get too interesting until the murder trial started。I liked the ending though, for a second there I thought we weren’t gunna find out what happened the Chase。Good ending cancels out the boring beginning so 4 stars

I took an interest to this book when everyone started talking about it online recently + the fact that it's on Reese's reading list。 So, I read it。 I have mixed emotions。 Overall, its not a bad book in the least。 It has a very interesting story line with aspects of romance, mystery, and drama。 I really enjoyed the characters and it did have me quite captivated once I got through a good chunk of the book。 (It takes a while to get into it)。 The ending really did have me shocked! I'm usually quite good at catching on and predicting endings, but this really leaves you baffled simply because of how the author portrays Kya, as an innocent and tender girl。 The book also touches on some critical societal issues such as racism and social economic status。 As mentioned, the only "negative" thing I can say about this is that I felt it took quite a long time to delve into the narrative, but really it's quite necessary。 Would definitely give it a read if you're looking for an interesting, enticing tale。 。。。more

Very engaging book。 The first part stirring emotions of great sympathy for children bereft of a normal upbringing。 Some of it got a little long during the trial part。 Still, images and emotions and twists that made it very enjoyable。

I can’t get over how perfect this book is。 The writing grabbed me from literally the first page and kept me entranced。 And the story! How can your heart not help but ache for Kya? A tale of perseverance and being true to yourself。 I’ve been wanting to read this book for sometime now that I have finished I understand the good reviews。 The town eventually realized about people what Ky knew about the marsh。 There is so much more to learn beneath the surface。

In all honesty, I was rooting for Kya and Tate throughout the book; although Tate did leave her at one point, I simply cannot blame him for it。 He chose himself, and you can never be mad at him for that。 When they finally found their way back to each other, my eyes were filled with tears of joy for their love。 Other than Jumpin, Mabel, and maybe Jodie, Tate was the only other person who loved Kya unconditionally。 In my opinion, he knew her better than all of them。 And although I was sad to hear they never were blessed with a child, I am happy with how their story turned out。 I loved this book, and it will definitely be one of the top books I recommend。 。。。more
